ahh- sweet mystery of life- you continue to elude me. it is commonly known that “once in  a blue moon” refers to something that doesn’t happen everyday. this fascinating concept both attracts and  repels me. i would humbly submit that a bit of its allure stems from the idea that there are patterns in our world that take some time to really notice along with effort to actually let them be revealed.

this moon cycle finds me connecting this boomeranging pattern that my emotional body wanders through like a labyrinth. first i believe. then i overtrust all the while filling my days actively trying to please and impress. then just as a “blue moon” appears, so does a blip in the rhythm this dance. an alternate truth emerges i experience a temporary blinding by the blue moon, unable to see simply and having to rely on my other senses in order to complete normal routines.

it’s strange and it seems true- with proof only resting upon my ability to dis-engage from one labyrinth and re-engage with another. as the decades elapse, i witness this whole ballet play out again and again. the movements and the pattern of the dance of my blue moon are so familiar and so emtionally connected that each time i am mesmerized. blue raster optical box chronicle

The next Blue Moon is July 31, 2015. In recent decades, many people have begun using the name Blue Moon to describe the second full moon of a calendar month. There was a full moon on July 2, 2015. There’s another full moon on July 31. So the July 31 full moon will be called a Blue Moon, according to this definition.

The time between one full moon and the next is close to the length of a calendar month. So the only time one month can have two full moons is when the first full moon happens in the first few days of the month. This happens every 2-3 years, so these sorts of Blue Moons come about that often.

When was the last Blue Moon, according to the monthly definition? It happened on August 31, 2012.
